MIDDLESEX COUNTY, Va. – Middlesex County, All Points Broadband and Dominion Energy Virginia held a groundbreaking ceremony for a fiber-to-the-home broadband project that will deliver service to more than 900 unserved homes and businesses in Middlesex County. Middlesex County is the seventh Virginia county where All Points Broadband has construction underway or completed through public-private partnerships and partnership with Dominion Energy Virginia. The Middlesex project is funded through investments by Middlesex County, the Department of Housing and Community Development’s Virginia Telecommunications Initiative, All Points Broadband and Dominion Energy Virginia. The company expects to complete its network deployment by the end of the year.

“Particularly in the upper end of the County, our residents have lacked access to broadband for a very long time,” said Wayne Jessie, Member of the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors and Chair of the Middlesex County Broadband Authority. “We are finally getting close to the day when those residents will be on an equal footing with other modern communities when it comes to having easy access to high-speed internet.”

“The Middlesex Broadband Authority has worked very hard to come up with innovative solutions for getting broadband to previously unreachable areas of the County. By pursuing grant funding and leveraging private and public funds, we are closer than ever to our goal of universal coverage,” said Kevin E. Gentry, Executive Director of the Middlesex Broadband Authority. “Without these partnerships with Dominion and DHCD, the cost of installation was untenable for the major internet service providers in the region. By leveraging county contributions, money from the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI), the American Rescue Plan (ARPA), and our partners Dominion and All Points Broadband, we have been able to find a financially viable path to rural broadband service. This would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the Authority and the continued support of the Middlesex Board of Supervisors.”

“We are pleased to be under construction on our broadband network last mile that will connect more than 900 unserved households and businesses in Middlesex County,” said Jimmy Carr, Chief Executive Officer of All Points Broadband. “We appreciate our collaborative partnership with Middlesex County and Dominion Energy Virginia and look forward to delivering affordable broadband service to this community by the end of the year.”

“I’m thrilled to see Middlesex County and the Commonwealth work with private sector partners to bring broadband to more Middlesex County citizens,” said Senator Mark Warner. “This will undoubtedly help improve access to job opportunities and educational resources, while helping small businesses grow.”

“We have made significant progress in ensuring that rural areas like Middlesex County are not left behind in the digital age,” said Delegate Keith Hodges. “This broadband project is a testament to what can be achieved when state, local and private partners come together to address critical needs. Access to high-speed internet is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity for education, healthcare and economic development. I am proud to support this initiative and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our communities.”

“As a public service company, Dominion Energy is driven to contribute to the quality of life and economic prosperity in the communities we serve and are excited to help bridge the digital divide in Middlesex County,” said Bryasan Mealy-Norris, Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Dominion Energy. We are happy to be collaborating with All Points and Middlesex County in providing this essential service to our customers.”
